PhD project description
IT Security is a matter of paramount importance to every organization. Today's network features a large number of different security solutions which are hardly interoperable, complex to manage and laboriously to change or modify. This often leads to stovepipe systems with less flexibility and increased security concerns. With the understanding of the security getting deeper, organizations are looking for new security management approaches. Security Management Infrastructure (SMI) is an emerging research area that aims at assisting organizations in this quest. One key enabler of SMI is to foster the interoperability of IT-based security components. This work presents a Security Services integrating Middleware (SeSIM) assuring a heterogeneity-independent interaction between these components, which serves as a homogeneous basis for further security management tasks.
