Biography

Giovane C. M. Moura is a PhD student at the Design and Analysis of Communication Systems (DACS) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science at the University of Twente, in the Netherlands. Currenlty he is also participating of the European Network of Excellence for the Management of Internet Technologies and Complex Services (Emanics).

He received his Master degree in Computer Science at the Institute of Informatics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He received his degree in Computer Engineering from the Federal University of Goiás , Brazil, in 2006.

His main topics of interest include scalable network management for next generation networks, intrusion detection scalability, and both network security and management.

PhD project description

The recent spread of Gbps networks and the constantly increasing amount of traffic transported by such networks has drawn the attention to scalability aspects of the management of these networks. To develop new management and intrusion detection approaches able to operate at gigabit rates represent a challenge for researchers. In this context,it is necessary to develop new security mechanisms for the Internet and its applications, with focus on scalable intrusion detection. The idea is to develop methodologies that allows to quickly identify malicious activities at the core network, with focus on distributed attacks.
