The twelfth Annual International Workshop on "Distributed Systems: Operations and Management" (DSOM 2001) was hosted by the "Lorraine Laboratory for Research into Information Technology and its Applications" (LORIA) and the "French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA) in Nancy, France.

DSOM 2001 is sponsored by IFIP Working Group 6.6 with technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE Communications Society. DSOM 2001 follows a series of highly successful meetings, the latest of which took place in Austin, USA (DSOM 2000), Zurich, Switzerland (DSOM'99), and Delaware, USA (DSOM'98).
